Joseph Schroedel, P.E., F.SAME, USA (Ret.), SAME Executive Director, on  December 8, 2020, 3:30 – 5:00 PM for a FREE virtual holiday happy hour! We will recap the many accomplishments of our Post, honor our 2020 Post Awardees, and install our 2021 Officers and Directors. This event will include active virtual participation, prizes, games and more…don’t miss it!

About our special guest:

Brig. Gen. Joe Schroedel, P.E., F.SAME, USA (Ret.) became SAME Executive Director in August 2014. He joined SAME from Parsons Brinckerhoff, which he joined after a 34-year career with the U.S. Army. He also serves as an Adjunct Professor in the Graduate Construction Management Program at George Mason University. As Executive Director Gen. Schroedel leads an organization comprising 102 Posts around the world and nearly 30,000 members.

Among Gen. Schroedel’s assignments with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), he served as Commanding General, USACE South Atlantic Division, and Commanding General, USACE South Pacific Division. From 2006–2009, as Commanding General of USACE South Atlantic Division, he led a 5,000 person workforce in the management and execution of a $4 billion military and civil works engineering, construction and environmental program. He worked directly with federal, tribal, state and local officials to understand their needs, garner authority and resources and execute solutions. Before that, as Commanding General, USACE South Pacific Division, Gen. Schroedel oversaw a $3 billion military and civil works program across 10 western states. Among other Army assignments, he served as Deputy Commander, USACE Gulf Region Division, 2004; Chief of Staff, HQ USACE, 2002–2003; and Executive Officer to the Secretary of the Army 1999–2002, during which time following the events of Sept. 11, 2001, he led a task force to develop a concept that would ultimately become the Department of Homeland Security.

Gen. Schroedel is a 1975 graduate of the U.S. Military Academy. He also holds a Master of Civil Engineering from University of Illinois, a Master of Military Art and Science from the Command and General Staff College, and a Master of National Security Strategy from the National War College. He was also inducted into the National Academy of Construction in 2020.

He is married to his high school sweetheart, Kathy and they have three grown children and 4 grandchildren.
